An Intimate Evening of Music and Memories

Friday, 22 August 202

Australia lost one of its greatest voices when Renée Geyer passed away on 17 January 2023. For over five decades, Renée was recognised as Australia's queen of soul, captivating audiences with her powerful, soulful voice and uncompromising artistry.

In her final years, Bird's Basement became Renée's musical home – the intimate jazz club where she felt most at ease, sharing her extraordinary talent in the setting she loved most. Her last performance was on that very stage, making this venue the perfect place to celebrate her remarkable legacy.

Now, we invite you to join us for a very special evening as we honour Renée's memory with the people who knew her best – her own band, the musicians who shared the stage with her night after night, and who understood her musical soul like no one else.

Featuring Nichaud Fitzgibbon

Nichaud Fitzgibbon, recognised as one of Australia's premier jazz stylists with her rich, sultry voice and commanding delivery, will perform Renée's songbook alongside the legendary singer's original band. Coming from celebrated Australian jazz royalty – her father was beloved jazz musician Smacka Fitzgibbon – Nichaud brings both the vocal prowess and deep musical understanding needed to honour Renée's extraordinary repertoire.

This won't just be a concert – it will be a celebration filled with the stories, memories, and music that made Renée Geyer an irreplaceable force in Australian music. Her band will share intimate tales from their years together, painting a picture of the artist behind the voice that moved a nation.

Come and be part of this unique celebration of a woman who changed Australian music forever, in the venue where she felt most at home.
