Steve Sedergreen is one of Melbourne’s most respected jazz identities. Over the decades he has earned a formidable reputation a jazz pianist, arranger and educator. Founder of the genre-defying group Mistaken Identity, for years a powerhouse of contemporary jazz playing across the country and earning an APRA nomination. He has performed at many major festivals, curated Dizzy’s Jazz Club (1999 -2006) and mentored members of the next generation of Australian jazz talent - including members of The Cat Empire, Axle Whitehead and Paris Wells, to name a few.
Jacki Gaudion is also a jazz legend in this town, hailing from the famous Gaudion family. Jacki always offers exceptional timing, delivery and storytelling, all drenched in the blues.
She has featured for years as one of the female vocalists in the note-worthy and enduring “Six of the Best” concerts with jazz legend Bob Sedergreen, featuring 6 top vocalists from different generations – always the hit of the Melbourne Women’s Jazz Festival.
Jacki’s cousin Ash Gaudion is an engaging and entertaining player, his saxophone offering loads of heart and soul and he sings like a true jazz crooner from yesteryear as well.
Trumpeter Toby Mak played with Mistaken Identity and is nothing short of world class.
Toby has resided in Shanghai for the last 20 years where he played with renowned jazz artists such as Dee Dee Bridgewater, Chris Potter, Mark Turner - to name a few. A recording artist, a recent one includes a tribute to former mentor, ex Motown giant, the late Gil Askey.
