The Crossing Machine will fully launch their new Album The Juliet Letters by Elvis Costello and The Brodsky Quartet at Birds Basement. Eight years in the making they can’t wait to share it with the world.
Also on the program is a preview of a couple of songs of a new Pop Art Cycle by Melbourne Composer Stuart Greenbaum and Lyricist Ross Baglin.
The band will also entertain with some other sweet surprises.
Classically trained string players Marianne Rothschild and Matthew Rigby on violins, Margaret Butcher viola and Charlotte Jacke on cello join forces with incredible pop vocalists Jordan Z and Annie Jones.

In 2018 Marianne Rothschild banded together some of the finest musicians in Melbourne to form The Crossing Machine string quartet. The aim was to perform and record The Juliet Letters by Elvis Costello and The Brodsky Quartet.
The Crossing Machine did just this in 2025 recording The Juliet Letters in the finest recording venue in Melbourne ABC’s Iwaki Auditorium.
Marianne connected with Jordan Z from Fleetwood Max Australia having been asked to join them for a couple of intimate candlelight shows. From here Jordan agreed to collaborate on the project.
The album has just been released this month on Bandcamp and they are thrilled to be having the official launch at Bird’s Basement on 5th November.
From this project another exciting project is being realised with Melbourne composer Stuart Greenbaum and lyricist Ross Baglin who were inspired to write a new Pop Art Cycle for voice and string quartet. An advanced preview of a couple of their songs of their project Darkroom will be on offer for those lucky enough to get a ticket. The Crossing Machine will be joined by Annie Jones (The Voice 2024, grand finalist) for this new work.
